The state of Quintana Roo: one of the world's most beautiful destinations
The state of Quintana Roo has been attracting tourists since 1900. The state's geographical location makes it an ideal tourist destination. This South Mexican state is located on the Yucatan Peninsula. Bordered by the Caribbean Sea, it is much admired by tourists. It owes this admiration to such laudable destinations as Akumal, Playa del Carmen and Cancún. There's no reason why you can't treat yourself to some wonderful moments of bliss on Cancun's wonderfully enhanced coastline. The cancun tourist tax couldn't be a limiting factor in accessing these intoxicatingly pleasurable sites. In reality, the real motivations behind this new tax lie elsewhere, and we'll talk about them in the rest of this article.
Attractive tourist attractions in Quintana Roo
You can't talk about this state without mentioning Cancún. Indeed, Cancun is one of the most popular tourist destinations. Tourists come for its fine white-sand beaches and turquoise waters. Its wonderful international cuisine is much appreciated by visitors. The state's famous tacos and burritos cannot go unnoticed.
A historic city par excellence, Quintana Roo boasts a number of interesting temples to visit. These include the Mayan temples of Talum. The Isla Mujere island and Playacar beach in Playa del Carmen offer a wide range of water sports for swimming enthusiasts.
Spending a vacation in Cancun means making memories that will last a lifetime. But if you decide to visit Quintana Roo, there's one thing you'll want to know: the visitax. What is the visitax and who is involved?
The visitax: why a new tax?
The high fluctuation of visitors to tourist sites in the state of Quintana Roo, and the many opportunities for traffic through the state, is not without consequences for these facilities. So, in order to keep the tourist facilities in their state and ensure their upkeep, new expenses have to be incurred. With this in mind, as of April 1, 2022, the state of Quintana Roo introduced the visitax to meet the expenses arising from the increase in visitor numbers, and to make tourist sites more attractive and secure.
Revenue from this tax will be used to make tourist sites more attractive and combat environmental risks. The visitax applies to foreigners over the age of 4 who wish to visit Quintana Roo for leisure purposes. It must be paid before entering the region. However, you can pay it after you have returned to the state. It is paid only once. But every time you leave the country to return, you have to pay it again.
You can pay this charge online using ordinary payment instruments, or go to the kiosks set up for this purpose at your destination.
